The Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA)
The ARCA was founded in 1980 and is an asbestos removal trade association for the UK industry. It represents the interests of UK asbestos removal contractors and the various associated asbestos businesses throughout the country. The ARCA has around 300 members, and it is the leading provider of asbestos removal training courses in the UK.
In 1997, the ARCA established a regionalised structure; these regions are Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, the Midlands, Wales & southwest England and southeast England. In 2004, an increase in membership numbers meant the need for a further region, and so East Anglia was added to the ARCA structure. These regions make it possible for local members to play an active role in the ARCA, and also enable the views of these members to be heard at governing council level. Each ARCA region has an appointed chairperson and committee.
Members of the ARCA take part in the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association Site Audit Accreditation Scheme, in order to ensure that they are working to the highest quality standards in the industry. All applicants must meet certain entrance criteria before being granted membership. Members of the ARCA may benefit from the following:
- Directory listing
- Access to various training courses and programmes
- Competency scheme
- ARCA publications
- Enhanced credibility
- ARCA organised functions and events
- Networking opportunities
More information, as well as an online contact request form, can be found on the ARCA website at www.arca.org.uk.

The ATAC has been operating for more than 20 years, and represents asbestos testing and consultancy specialists in the UK and abroad. The ATAC holds a unique position in the asbestos industry, and is involved with many different groups and committees, where it acts on behalf of its members. This involvement means that members of the ATAC can be made aware of changes in the industry, ahead of others who may not be so heavily involved.
Members of the ATAC should be able to offer independent and impartial advice on various aspects of asbestos management, remediation and removal. Applicants for membership in the ATAC are vetted to ensure they have appropriate accreditation with the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), for the services they offer. Applicants must also hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance for the level of trading undertaken. Members of the ATAC can benefit from the following:
- Discounts on employers' liability
- Discounts for industry-related training
- Technical advice
- Networking opportunities
- Industry liaison and lobbying
